Horton Plains
Horton plains is in the central province .It is 32 km away from NuwaraEliya .It is the highest plateau in the country .It is about 2300m high.This was discovered by sir .Robeit Horton .This park has 3160 hectares .It was declared a national park in 1988
The average temperature of Horton Plains is 15 c - 22 c. Both the north east and south west monsoons bring the rains to this park kalani walawe the Mahaweli rivers start fron this area.This area is cold due to the high altitude.
We can see a wide variety of endemic founs & flora .we also can see mamals,elk ,deer ,gaint squirrel , wild boar ,otter ,porcupine & leopard .There are about 87 species of birds.
This park is famous for beautiful flowers.Nelli, Bovitiya , Binara , dwarf bamboo and Orchids ,species are endamic.we can see beautiful waterfall like Baker's Fall's and Chimini Pool .The famous "worls End "is an attractive place Both many Srilankans & foreignes come to seethe beauty of this area.
So this park is a wealth to our country .We must protect this treasure for the future generation .
